Illinois Passengers 1979-1997
The 1983 baseplate replaced the 1979 base.  The 1979 base was issued in an all-numeric 123 456 format first (although Illinois does not use leading zeroes, so 1-5 digit plates are possible), then an AB-1234 and ABC-123 format.  All 1979 bases were off the orads by 1987 as Illinois did a gradual replate.
